2027: Only a Third Force Can Liberate Kwara – ADC Chieftain Oyedepo

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, has said only a third political force can rescue Kwara State in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, Oyedepo said the deepening crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has weakened the party’s chances of retaining power in the state.

Oyedepo, who was a prominent member of the “O To Ge” movement that ended the Peoples Democratic Party’s dominance in Kwara in 2019, alleged that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had failed to justify the confidence reposed in him.

According to him, the APC national leadership imposed AbdulRazaq as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2019 election, adding that he had warned party leaders in 2024 that internal divisions could threaten the party’s future if they were not addressed.

He claimed that the governor’s political decisions had further deepened divisions within the APC and could affect the party’s fortunes in the 2027 elections.

Oyedepo, who is the ADC’s Kwara South Senatorial candidate, said the ongoing crisis could present an opportunity for opposition parties. However, he argued that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not a viable alternative.

According to him, both the APC and PDP are characterised by what he described as dynastic politics and godfatherism.

He therefore urged Kwarans to support a political party that promotes internal democracy, has no godfather and is committed to good governance if the state is to achieve meaningful development.
