Public affairs analyst and legal practitioner, Barrister Abdulhameed Hayatullah, has called for improved quality education, transparency in government policies, stronger democratic institutions, and enhanced security strategies to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges.
Speaking during SBS Newspaper Review and Analysis, monitored by reporter Fatimah Saleh, Hayatullah described the Federal Government’s student loan initiative as a positive step towards expanding access to higher education but stressed that its success depends on quality education, effective implementation, transparency, and measures to prevent corruption. He also advocated support for vocational education and entrepreneurship alongside university education.
On political developments, the analyst welcomed the Court of Appeal’s decision restoring the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties, describing it as a victory for democracy, political inclusion, and judicial independence. He also maintained that security operations against armed criminals must always comply with the rule of law and respect for human rights, despite the country’s security challenges.
Addressing insecurity, Hayatullah urged the government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve security strategies, and work closely with local communities to combat banditry and secure the release of abducted victims. While commending the efforts of security agencies, he insisted that the government remains constitutionally responsible for protecting the lives and property of citizens and should be held accountable for improving national security.
