Analyst Commends INEC’s Performance in Anambra Election, Urges Caution in Judging New Boss

By Oluwatosin Babatunde

Comrade Tajudeen Habeeb, a Kwara-based public affairs analyst, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the notable improvements recorded during the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election.

He particularly praised the commission’s efficiency in uploading election results, revealing that 99 percent of the results were available on the INEC Results Viewing Portal, or IREV, on the very evening of the polls. On today’s episode of Newspaper Review and Analysis of our station, closely monitored by SBS reporter Oluwatosin Babatunde, Comrade Habeeb made these remarks.

However, he cautioned Nigerians against drawing broad conclusions about the performance of the new INEC chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, based solely on this election. He emphasized that while the successes are commendable, any challenges observed should not define the commission’s future under the new leadership.

He also appealed to Nigerians to remain engaged and avoid voter apathy in upcoming elections, stressing that active participation is key to strengthening democracy in the country.

Comrade Habeeb’s comments come at a time when debates continue over the credibility and transparency of elections across the nation. He urged citizens to maintain faith in the electoral process and to support reforms aimed at improving the system.
