The recent protests at Kwara Polytechnic have sparked significant debate over governance, land use, and institutional autonomy.

Com Olaitan Arije has commended the Kwara State Government for its proactive response to the unrest. Speaking on today’s episode of Newspaper Review and Analysis on SBS FM, Arije urged the government to make better use of the institution’s unused land. He also called on the committee set up to address the protests to take decisive and effective action.

In contrast, Dr. Ayuba Jabaje, a lecturer and legal expert, condemned the suspension of the polytechnic’s rector. Dr. Jabaje warned against treating the institution as merely a revenue-generating enterprise.

He also emphasized the need to utilize the idle land within the school and criticized the composition of the government-appointed committee handling the protests.

The Kwara Polytechnic situation has highlighted key issues affecting educational institutions in the state, with analysts stressing the importance of balancing governance, infrastructure development, and the welfare of both students and staff.

As discussions continue, stakeholders are calling for thoughtful interventions that prioritize sustainable development and fair leadership over short-term gains.
