The Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 1,500 personnel and several logistics vehicles to ensure a smooth and secure governorship election in Anambra State on November 8.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who addressed journalists in Awka ahead of the poll, said the deployment formed part of the agency’s strategic support to maintain safety and order before, during and after the election. He was represented by Assistant Corps Marshal S. T. Agure, in charge of Federal Operations at the FRSC Headquarters.

Mohammed said the FRSC would work closely with other security agencies and enforce the restriction of movement into the state from midnight on Friday. He urged personnel to remain civil, professional and disciplined throughout the exercise, while ensuring proper identification and adherence to the corps’ code of conduct.

Earlier, the Anambra Sector Commander, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, briefed the visiting team on the command’s preparedness. She said FRSC officials had taken part in INEC training sessions, security meetings and peace-accord signings by candidates.

Asekhauno noted that all vehicles designated for conveying election materials had been certified roadworthy, while additional manpower and logistics support were being drawn from Edo, Delta, Imo and Enugu commands. Officers have also been deployed to the situation room to coordinate real-time emergency reports with other security agencies.

She appealed to motorists and residents to cooperate with the FRSC to ensure free traffic flow and safe movement of electoral materials, assuring that the corps remained committed to delivering a peaceful and secure election in Anambra.
