The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across public universities nationwide.
National President of the Union, Prof. Chris Piwuna, announced the decision at a press briefing on Sunday at the University of Abuja, saying the action takes effect from midnight, Monday, October 13, 2025.
“There is nothing sufficient on ground to stop the implementation of ASUU-NEC’s resolution to embark on a two-week warning strike,” Piwuna said.
He directed all branches to withdraw their services immediately, stressing that the strike would be “total and comprehensive.”
The fresh standoff comes despite ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government over welfare, funding, and the long-standing 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, had earlier said discussions were in their final phase, noting that the government had released ₦50 billion for Earned Academic Allowances and earmarked another ₦150 billion in the 2025 budget for needs assessment.
However, with talks yet to yield results, classrooms across public universities are once again set to fall silent.
