The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State on Saturday elected Hon. Issa Adamu Bawa as its new chairman at a peaceful congress held at Arca Santa Hall, Ilorin.
The exercise was supervised by the PDP electoral committee from the national headquarters, chaired by Barrister Jacob Mark, with INEC officials present as observers.
In his acceptance speech, Bawa promised to rebuild and unite the party ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring: “With unity, integrity and hard work, we shall reclaim our mandate and rescue Kwara State.”

Outgoing chairman, Rt. Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, said the PDP had regained strength since 2021 and was now positioned to retake power.
Professor Muritala also said Kwarans regretted voting PDP out in 2019, citing worsening insecurity and poverty under the current administration.
Former PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, added that the congress theme, “Securing Kwara,” reflected the people’s yearnings, stressing that Nigerians were “tired of lies, insecurity and bad governance.”
