BREAKING: Tunji Disu Named New IGP as Tinubu Removes Egbetokun

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and appointed Tunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector General (AIG), as the new IGP.

Sources say the removal followed a Presidential directive for Egbetokun to resign, delivered during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.

Egbetokun became the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023, with his appointment confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023. At 58, he was due to retire on September 4, 2024, upon reaching the mandatory age of 60, but his tenure had been controversially extended by the President.

Tunji Disu now takes charge of the Nigeria Police Force amid growing national security concerns.
