A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the forthcoming 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Justice James Omotosho issued the order on Friday while ruling on a suit challenging the legality of the planned convention.
The court held that the PDP failed to comply with statutory requirements guiding the conduct of such conventions, including the mandatory 21-day notice to INEC for proper monitoring.
Justice Omotosho noted that evidence before the court showed that congresses were not conducted in some states, in violation of the law.
He further ruled that all notices and correspondence signed solely by the PDP National Chairman without the National Secretary’s signature were invalid and of no legal effect.
The judge advised the party to address the identified irregularities before proceeding with its convention.
