A medical doctor has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly transporting pharmaceutical supplies from Sokoto State to suspected kidnapping gangs operating in Kwara State.
The Kwara State Government confirmed the development on Friday in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, describing the arrest as a major breakthrough in ongoing security operations across the state.
According to the government, the suspect was intercepted in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area, after intelligence linked him to a network believed to be responsible for delivering medical items to armed criminal groups within the region.
“The Department of State Service has taken into custody a medical doctor who was ferrying drugs from Sokoto to kidnappers in parts of Kwara State,” the statement read in part.
Although the government did not disclose the identity of the suspect, it said further investigations were underway to determine the scale of his alleged involvement with kidnapping syndicates.
Security agencies have recently intensified surveillance and coordinated operations across Kwara following multiple incidents of abductions in different communities.
The government urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security authorities, reiterating its commitment to working with federal agencies to dismantle criminal networks in the state.
