Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has declared that the era of impunity within the Nigeria Police Force is over.
Disu made the assertion on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents shortly after being sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The new police chief said he was deeply moved by the President’s remarks during the ceremony.
“The way the President mentioned a lot of activities about me, areas I have worked and successes I’ve recorded as a policeman brought emotion to me, almost brought me to tears,” he said.
Outlining his priorities, Disu pledged to instill discipline and professionalism among officers and men of the Force.
“I will let them know that the era of impunity is over. I will ensure that I train them and encourage them to respect human rights,” he stated.
He also promised to operate a zero-tolerance policy on corruption within the Force.
“I will try to follow a regime of zero tolerance for corruption, and most importantly, I’m going to drum it into them that we can never succeed without the cooperation of members of the public,” Disu added.
He emphasized that public trust and collaboration would be central to achieving effective policing and improved national security.
