First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to eliminating tuberculosis (TB) by 2030, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for a healthier nation.
Speaking as the special guest of honour at the 39th Stop TB Partnership Board Meeting held in Manila, Philippines, Mrs Tinubu emphasised that the federal government is taking concrete steps to strengthen the country’s health systems and reduce dependence on donor funding.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady told the gathering of over 180 delegates from 47 countries that Nigeria was determined to sustain progress toward eradicating TB through local ownership and resilience.
“As the world’s deadliest infectious disease, tuberculosis remains a threat to us all. Because it is airborne, no one is safe until everyone is safe,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu, who serves as both Global and National Stop TB Champion, reaffirmed that Nigeria’s efforts will continue to focus on awareness, early detection, and access to quality healthcare to meet the 2030 target.
