Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing it as a monumental loss to both Bayelsa and Rivers states.
In a condolence message personally signed and released on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Fubara extended sympathies to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, the government and people of the state, following the sudden demise of his deputy.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of Rivers State, I extend our deepest condolences to you, my brother Governor Douye Diri, and all the people of Bayelsa State over the news of the sudden passing of your Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo,” the statement read in part.
Fubara described the late deputy governor as a man of rare calibre whose service to humanity and commitment to public duty were exemplary. According to him, Ewhrudjakpo combined intellectual depth with humility and left an enduring legacy in governance.
He noted that the loss goes beyond Bayelsa State, stressing that Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region have lost a seasoned leader whose contributions to public service will be remembered for years.
The Rivers governor prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and asked God to grant Governor Diri, the Ewhrudjakpo family, and the people of Bayelsa State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
