Nigerian singer Joeboy has acknowledged that South African star Tyla rightfully won the ‘Best African Music Performance’ award at the 2026 Grammys, despite strong competition from several Nigerian artistes.
Speaking in an interview with Jay On-Air, Joeboy admitted that although he had hoped Davido would clinch the award, Tyla’s victory was well-earned through her talent and hard work.
“Personally, I was rooting for Davido to win the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, but you can’t take it away from Tyla. She is an amazing artiste, whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work,” he said.
He added, “People can be angry all they want, but she deserved the Grammy win. I can’t fault her triumph.”
Joeboy also revealed that Tyla is among the artistes he would love to collaborate with in the future, praising her dedication and artistry.
Tyla won the award with her hit single Push 2 Start, surpassing Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy (Love), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat), Davido (With You featuring Omah Lay), as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin (Hope & Love).
This marks Tyla’s second Grammy, having previously won in 2024 for her single Water.
