Kwara State has declared readiness to take a frontline position in Nigeria’s sugar industry, with Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, representing the state at the National Workshop on Sustainable Sugar Production in Nigeria.

The week-long event, held at Lagos Airport Hotels and convened by the National Sugar Development Council in partnership with Proforest, brought together key players from government, private sector, and development partners to strategize on the future of the industry.

Speaking at the workshop, Alabi said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration has repositioned agriculture as a catalyst for food sufficiency, job creation, and industrial growth.

He stressed that Kwara’s vast and fertile land offers enormous potential for sugarcane cultivation, adding that the state is strategically placed to boost national sugar production and strengthen Nigeria’s global competitiveness.
