Kwara Govt Introduces Special Security Measures in Five LGAs to Protect Schoolchildren

By Favour Raphael

The Kwara State Government has rolled out special security measures across schools in five local government areas as part of efforts to ensure a safer learning environment amid rising security concerns.

The new measures take immediate effect in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin and Oke Ero LGAs, targeting both day and boarding schools. The state said the action follows intelligence suggesting that fleeing kidnappers may attempt to use schoolchildren as shields as security operations intensify across the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the precautionary steps would remain in place pending further clearance from security agencies.

According to him, boarding schools in Irepodun LGA are also receiving additional attention, as they could be potential targets for criminals escaping ongoing security crackdowns.

“The government is determined to protect our children and prevent criminals from taking advantage of the current security operations,” the statement said.

Dr. Olohungbebe added that the state will continue to monitor the situation and adjust measures as necessary to safeguard students and staff across the affected areas.
