Kwara Health Commissioner Highlights Gains in Healthcare Delivery on SBS ‘Kwara Engage’

By Olubukola Abiola

Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed, has disclosed that employment opportunities remain open for doctors in the state, as recruitment continues to replace retiring medical personnel.

Speaking on SBS programme Kwara Engage, Dr. Ahmed explained that the process is ongoing because doctors retire regularly and new ones are brought into the system to maintain adequate manpower. She added that salaries of health workers have been increased, while promotions are consistently implemented across the sector.

According to her, staff welfare and infrastructural development have recorded significant improvements, noting that although more still needs to be done, the government’s efforts deserve commendation.

Highlighting achievements under Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq’s administration, the Commissioner revealed that over 10,000 residents have benefited from surgical operations through various medical outreaches organised by the state government. She also stated that about 90,000 people are currently receiving free healthcare services across the state.

Dr. Ahmed said that in response to rising cancer concerns over the past two years, the governor directed intensified screening exercises, particularly for cervical cancer among women and prostate cancer among men, to ensure early detection and prompt treatment.

She further emphasised the importance of practical teaching in schools, advocating hands-on training to better prepare students for real-life professional challenges.

Commending health workers for their dedication, she described the present administration as people-focused, especially towards the poor and vulnerable.

Dr. Ahmed concluded that “health to wealth” begins with individuals maintaining clean environments and adopting healthy lifestyles, stressing that good health starts with personal and community responsibility.
