The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed the reopening of schools across the state from Monday, January 5, 2026, with the exception of areas currently under special security surveillance.
This is contained in a statement signed by Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, on January 4, 2026.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the decision was taken with public safety as the top priority, noting that learning activities would resume immediately in all safe locations.
“We welcome our children and schools back across the state. Learning activities are to resume immediately in all but areas earlier identified to be under special security surveillance. This structured resumption is designed to keep our children from harm’s way amid renewed security operations. Normal school activities will resume in such places very soon,” Olohungbebe said.
He added that the ministry, in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), wished students, teachers and parents a fruitful academic session in the new year.
To further expand access to learning, the ministry announced the introduction of a radio-based learning initiative to complement classroom teaching.
The programme, supported by UNICEF and the Nigeria Learning Passport, is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 5. According to the statement, lessons will be broadcast on 99.1 Midland FM at 11:00 a.m. on Mondays, 1:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.
The ministry said additional radio stations would be added soon to ensure wider coverage across the state.
The move, the statement noted, reflects the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration’s commitment to safeguarding learners while sustaining access to quality education despite security challenges.
