The Kwara State Police Command has announced the immediate enforcement of traffic laws and regulations across the state as part of efforts to improve road safety and restore order on major roads.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, directed the exercise in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police. The command said the move followed increasing violations of traffic regulations, which have contributed to road crashes, traffic congestion and the endangerment of lives and property.
The command explained that the enforcement exercise is aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic laws, promoting orderly road use and protecting lives rather than inconveniencing law-abiding residents. It added that officers deployed for the operation have been directed to carry out their duties professionally and respect the rights of members of the public, warning that any officer found engaging in misconduct or violating traffic regulations would face disciplinary action.
The police urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as other road users, to obey traffic signs, observe speed limits, maintain valid vehicle documents and avoid dangerous driving. The command also appealed for public cooperation, assuring residents of its commitment to ensuring safer roads and protecting lives and property across the state.
