The Kwara State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in the fight against crime across the state in August. Commissioner of Police, Adekimi-Ojo, made this known while briefing journalists on Thursday in Ilorin. He attributed the successes to a combination of discreet investigations, intelligence gathering, swift tactical operations, and cooperation with vigilantes, other security agencies, the media, and the public.
According to him, four kidnap victims were rescued and 44 suspects arrested for various crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, culpable homicide, forgery, and unlawful possession of firearms. Recovered exhibits include an AK-47 rifle, several locally made guns, 50 rounds of ammunition, vehicles, over 180 cows, electronic gadgets, and N2.7 million suspected to be ransom money.

One of the major cases highlighted was the gruesome killing of Mrs. Esther Enomo at Temidire, Egbejila community. Her dismembered body was discovered in her home, and investigations linked the crime to her husband, Ekene Enomo, who later died in custody. Police say efforts are ongoing to track other suspects connected to the case.
The Command also paraded a suspect who allegedly defrauded a victim of N300 million under the pretense of securing him a federal political appointment. He was arrested in Ibadan after months on the run. In another case, police arrested two men over the killing of a cattle rearer in Kaiama Local Government. His body was recovered from a well with gunshot wounds, and the suspects confessed to the crime.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the command foiled an armed robbery at a shop in Yakuba area, Ilorin, where stolen items, including phones and power banks, were recovered, and one suspect was arrested after being shot by vigilantes.
The Command also recovered N2.7 million as part of a ransom paid in a separate case involving the abduction of a woman, Yusuf Suliat, in Okuta. The Commissioner of Police assured residents that investigations are ongoing into all the reported cases, including the abduction of a Chinese national and a recent suspected kidnap attack at a mosque in Patigi.

Ojo urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to make Kwara State safer. “The command remains tireless in its commitment to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of all residents,” he assured.
