In a statement issued late Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command said the incident occurred around 6 p.m. and was swiftly responded to by the Divisional Police Officer in Eruku alongside police operatives and local vigilantes.
According to the statement, the joint team moved immediately toward the outskirts of the community after hearing sporadic gunshots, forcing the attackers to flee into the bush.
A search operation that followed led to the discovery of two victims. One, identified as Mr. Aderemi, was found fatally shot inside the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, while another victim, Mr. Tunde Asaba Ajayi, was discovered dead in the bush with gunshot wounds.
A vigilante operative, Segun Alaja, also sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to ECWA Hospital in Eruku for treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the quick response of the police and community vigilantes, assuring residents that security agencies remain committed to flushing out criminal elements in the axis.
He promised that the Command “will not relent until these hoodlums are totally decimated,” adding that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
