The Kwara State Police Command has announced heightened security measures across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, assuring residents of sustained patrols, intelligence sharing, and rapid response capabilities throughout the festive period.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, has deployed personnel to strategic communities, markets, worship centres, motor parks and other sensitive public locations to forestall any security breach.
According to the command, the sale and use of fireworks, bangers and other explosive devices remain strictly prohibited. It warned that such items often trigger panic, cause false alarms and can be exploited to mask criminal activity. Offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
The police also reminded residents that the existing restriction on motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. remains fully in force. The regulation, it noted, has significantly contributed to reducing night-time crime.
The statement urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, assuring that the Command is committed to maintaining peace and security throughout the festive period and beyond.
Relevant information, it added, will be communicated through official police channels.
Residents were advised to report emergencies or suspicious activities via the Kwara Police Control Room numbers: 08125275046 and 0703206950.
