Kwara Police Probe Alleged Assault Claims During Government House Protest

The Kwara State Police Command has commenced an investigation into allegations of assault reportedly linked to a protest at the Government House gate on December 27, 2025, following the circulation of a viral video and related narratives on social media.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi on Tuesday, the Command said it became aware of the video, which purportedly showed an incident at the Government House.

However, a forensic analysis conducted by the police revealed that the footage was a digitally manipulated composite. According to the police, the video was deliberately spliced to combine unrelated scenes of violent altercations with footage from a separate and peaceful protest, with the intent of falsely portraying an assault at the Government House.

The Command also disclosed that some images being shared in connection with the incident were traced to unrelated events that occurred several months earlier, a development that now forms part of the ongoing inquiry. The police stated that all efforts to identify and interview the alleged victims, particularly the two women featured in the viral clip, have so far been unsuccessful.

The Command further noted that no official complaint has been received from any individual or group in relation to the alleged incident, despite repeated public appeals for anyone affected to come forward.

Reiterating the position of the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, stressed the importance of prior notification and coordination with the police before the conduct of any public demonstration. He explained that such procedures enable the Nigeria Police Force to provide adequate security, prevent hoodlums from hijacking peaceful protests, and ensure the safety of lives and property while safeguarding citizens’ rights.

The Kwara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public order and protecting the fundamental rights of all residents. It also urged members of the public to exercise caution, verify information, and ensure the authenticity of content before sharing it on social media.
