Ghanaian musician Ladsmid Nathaniel Owusu, popularly known as Lasmid, has claimed that several Nigerian Afrobeats hits first gained popularity in Ghana before becoming successful in Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, the 26-year-old singer said Ghana has played a major role in promoting Nigerian music across the continent.
“We love Nigerians so much, even more than ourselves. If a Nigerian drops a song, it will first blow in Ghana before it blows in Nigeria,” Lasmid said.
He cited Spyro’s 2023 hit single “Who’s Your Guy” as an example, claiming it became a massive success in Ghana before Nigerians embraced it.
“The song ‘Who’s Your Guy’ by Spyro blew in Ghana before Nigeria. The song was very big in Ghana before Nigerians caught the wave. The love Ghana has for Nigeria has always been there,” he added.
Lasmid, known for his breakout song “Friday Night,” is one of Ghana’s rising Afrobeats stars and has often expressed admiration for the Nigerian music industry, describing it as an inspiration for young African artists.
