The Old Boys Association of Mount Carmel College, Ilorin, has called for urgent intervention to address what it described as more than two decades of government neglect that has left the institution in a state of disrepair.
In a statement issued by the General Secretary of the MOCOBA Old Boys, Class of 2000, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, the association described the condition of the school as a wake-up call, urging alumni to unite in efforts to restore the institution to its former glory.
According to the statement, the prolonged neglect has led to the deterioration of infrastructure and learning facilities, threatening the legacy of a school that has produced professionals, public servants, business leaders and other accomplished individuals.
The association called on former students to move beyond nostalgia and take practical steps towards the rehabilitation of the college.
It urged the formation of a strong alumni advocacy group to engage relevant government authorities and demand accountability for the years of neglect.
The statement also encouraged members to leverage their influence across the media, corporate organisations and public institutions to draw attention to the challenges facing the school and advocate for government intervention.
In addition, the association proposed the establishment of an Alumni Intervention Fund to mobilise resources for urgent infrastructure projects while discussions with the government continue.
The association appealed to all alumni to support the initiative, stressing that restoring the institution’s legacy would require a united commitment from its former students.
