NFF Opens Talks With Eric Chelle Over Contract Extension

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to open discussions with Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, over a possible extension of his contract.

The move follows reported approval by the National Sports Commission (NSC) for negotiations to commence.

Chelle, who took charge of the Super Eagles in 2025, has expressed willingness to continue in the role. He is said to have reaffirmed his passion for Nigerian football, noting that his admiration for the national team dates back to the 1990s when he first “fell in love” with the Super Eagles.

The planned talks come amid speculation linking the coach with interest from Tunisia. Reports had indicated that the Tunisian Football Federation made inquiries about his availability, raising questions about his long-term future with Nigeria. However, the NFF’s decision to initiate extension discussions appears aimed at ensuring continuity and fending off external interest.

Under Chelle’s leadership, the Super Eagles have displayed resilience and improved tactical discipline, earning him commendation from fans and football analysts alike.

The national team recently finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco, a performance that further strengthened calls for Chelle’s retention.
