The National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed all universities in Nigeria to discontinue the Top-Up/HND Conversion programme with immediate effect.
According to the directive, institutions are to replace the programme with approved alternatives under existing university structures.
The alternatives listed by the commission include:
Regular Programme (Full-time)
Non-Regular Programme, including:
Part-time
Sandwich
Open and Distance Learning (ODL)
The commission also clarified that the term “Top-Up Conversion” is no longer recognised within the Nigerian university system.
Under the new directive, such programmes are now to be designated as “Part-Time Degree” programmes.
The NUC stated that the directive takes immediate effect, adding that further guidelines and operational directions would be communicated to universities in due course.
