Omu-Aran Hospital Upgrade: Popoola Named Chief Medical Director

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the appointment of Professor Ademola Alabi Popoola as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the newly designated Thomas Adewumi Teaching Hospital, Omu-Aran.

The appointment follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and Thomas Adewumi University, Oko, which formally converted the General Hospital, Omu-Aran, into the university’s teaching hospital.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, described the development as a significant step in strengthening the state’s health and education sectors.

“Prof. Popoola’s appointment will provide visionary leadership that will drive the hospital towards global standards in medical training, research, and service delivery,” she said.

Dr. El-Imam added that the initiative was “a bold move which will not only elevate Thomas Adewumi University’s medical training programmes but also expand access to quality healthcare services for the people of Kwara and beyond.”

A statement signed by Saad Hamdalat, Press Secretary, Ministry of Health, noted that the appointment underscores the AbdulRazaq administration’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare and positioning the state as a hub for medical innovation and training.

“With this appointment, the Kwara State Government has once again demonstrated its dedication to building a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous future for its citizens,” the statement said.
