One dead as rival cult groups clashes in Kwara market

A middle-aged man was reportedly killed on Friday during a violent confrontation between suspected rival cult groups at Oja-Oba Market in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that the victim’s body was removed from the scene by officers in a Hilux pickup vehicle.

The clash sparked panic across the market, forcing motorists and pedestrians to divert from Emir Road, Ita-Ajia, and the Gambari axis. Traders quickly closed their stalls and sought safer locations as security personnel responded.

One suspect, dressed in white traditional attire, was apprehended and taken into custody at the “C” Division Police Station, Oja-Oba.

Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the state police, said investigations are ongoing to apprehend all those responsible and bring them to justice.
