PDP Still Vibrant Despite Defections — Udenta

By Musemil Abubakar

Political analyst and founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, Dr. Udenta Udenta, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains strong despite recent defections.

Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, Udenta dismissed claims that the opposition party is collapsing, insisting it is “vibrant, resilient, and deeply rooted in the people.”

He said the recent defections were acts of “cowardice and selfishness” by politicians chasing personal ambition, not a reflection of public sentiment.

“The PDP is alive. What you see is a shift among the elite — but gluttony has consequences; the APC is already imploding under its own weight,” he said.

Udenta described the defections as a “natural cleansing” that would leave the PDP smaller but stronger ahead of its November 16 national convention.

He added that the party’s foundation remains solid and could still produce a winning candidate in 2027.

Enugu Governor Peter Mbah became the latest to defect to the APC on Tuesday, citing alignment with a “broader national vision.”
