Students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have been evacuated following the closure of the institution amid rising security concerns in Plateau State.
The development comes in the wake of renewed unrest in Jos, just hours after the relaxation of a 48-hour curfew earlier imposed by the state government following the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that students were seen leaving their hostels with luggage, moving in small groups towards safer locations. Many gathered at the Old Airport Roundabout, a designated evacuation point within the city.
The Plateau State Government reportedly provided transportation to assist in relocating the students from the university campus to the roundabout, from where they continued their journeys to various destinations.
The closure of the institution underscores growing concerns over safety in the state capital following the recent violence, which has heightened tension and disrupted normal activities.
Authorities have yet to announce when academic activities will resume, as security agencies continue efforts to restore calm in the affected areas.
