The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated that securing the state remains a shared responsibility between law enforcement agencies and residents.
Speaking at a security roundtable on Wednesday, November 20, 2025, the CP — represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu — said effective policing cannot be achieved without strong community cooperation.
The event, themed “The Nigerian Police and the Challenges of Policing at the Sub-National Level: Is State Police a Viable Option?”, was held at the IPBS Boardroom, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Organised by the Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies in partnership with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), the forum brought together security experts and stakeholders, including retired Air Vice Marshal Chiobi, Special Adviser on Security to the Anambra State Governor; HRH Igwe P.O. Omachonu; Prof. Amaka Joe-Iguh; civil society representatives; academics; and journalists.
The CP emphasized that sustainable peace and improved security require deeper collaboration between the Police and residents.
“Only through unity of purpose can Anambra achieve sustainable peace and safety,” he said, urging the public to show greater concern and work closely with security agencies.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community policing partnerships and improving overall security across the state.
