Reps Move to Resolve PENGASSAN–Dangote Refinery Dispute

By Fatimah Yusuf

The House of Representatives has moved to mediate in the ongoing dispute between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Dangote Refinery, which recently disrupted petroleum product distribution across the country.

The decision followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance co-sponsored by Alhassan Doguwa (Kano) and Abdussamad Dasuki (Sokoto) during Tuesday’s plenary.

Titled “Need to Protect Private Investment from Adversarial Unionism,” the motion highlighted the refinery’s strategic importance as Africa’s largest private petroleum facility and urged prompt intervention to prevent further disruption.

The dispute, which began on September 29, 2025, had triggered industrial action at the $20 billion refinery, raising concerns over fuel supply stability and industrial harmony in the sector.
