Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has condemned Tuesday’s terrorist attack on Eruku town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing the incident as shocking and deeply distressing.
In a statement issued early Wednesday, Saraki said he received news of the attack with “great concern,” noting that several residents were injured and others kidnapped during the assault.
He said the violence had disrupted the “usually serene and peaceful atmosphere” of the ancient town, calling for immediate and decisive steps from the authorities.
“I sympathise with all the victims and their relatives. I pray for Allah’s healing, restoration and strength at this difficult time,” he said.
Saraki urged the Federal Government and security chiefs to ensure the quick rescue of those abducted and reinforce security across the state.
“I call on the Federal Government, particularly the heads of our security agencies, to urgently act to ensure that the kidnapped victims of this sad incident regain their freedom and return home safely to their loved ones,” he stated.
He further stressed the need for a more robust and long-term security architecture in Kwara, given its strategic position as a gateway between the North and South.
“The state deserves a special security arrangement that will not jeopardise our national interest and internal peace,” he added.
Saraki also prayed for divine intervention, saying: “May Allah (SWT) heal our land and help us defeat all those waging war against Nigeria.”
The Guardian had reported that armed masked men stormed a church in Eruku on Tuesday evening, killing five worshippers, abducting several others and injuring more people, including a local vigilante member, as they fled.
