President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
In a statement issued by the State House, the President urged INEC to use the off-cycle election as an opportunity to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu called for an orderly electoral process, urging the commission to protect the integrity of the election and ensure that voters are allowed to freely choose their preferred candidates.
He also charged security agencies to protect voters, electoral officials and election materials before, during and after the poll, while warning against intimidation, violence and other actions capable of undermining the election.
The President stressed that the Osun election should provide Nigerians with confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He therefore urged political parties, candidates, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and respect the rules governing the election.
