Malawi head coach, Lovemore Fazili, has praised his players for their impressive performance following the team’s shock 3-2 victory over defending champions, Nigeria’s Super Falcons, in their opening match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Captain Tabitha Chawinga scored once in the encounter, while her sister, Temwa Chawinga, netted twice to secure victory for the Scorchers.
Fazili commended his players for their determination and discipline, describing the performance as outstanding.
According to him, the team showed character and proved they are capable of competing at the highest level.
The victory moved Malawi to second place in Group C, behind regional rivals Zambia on goal difference.
The Scorchers will face Egypt in their next group match on Saturday.
