WORLD CANCER DAY: NCDC Calls for Empathy, Early Detection

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has called for increased empathy, early detection, and improved access to quality care in the fight against cancer.

The call was contained in a press statement posted on the official X handle of the NCDC to mark World Cancer Day, commemorated globally today.

According to the statement, the 2026 campaign theme, “United by Unique,” recognises that every cancer journey is different and requires understanding, compassion, and tailored support.

The NCDC stressed that strengthening prevention efforts, promoting early detection, and improving early access to quality health services would significantly reduce the burden of cancer in Nigeria.

The agency urged collective action, noting that coordinated efforts by government, health institutions, and the public can make a meaningful difference in cancer control nationwide.
