A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Dino Melaye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to disclose the reasons behind the removal of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
Melaye’s demand follows Tuesday’s announcement by the Presidency that Edun had been relieved of his duties and replaced by Taiwo Oyedele.
The Federal Government has yet to officially state the reason for the cabinet reshuffle.
Reacting via his official Facebook page, the former Kogi West senator questioned the circumstances surrounding the minister’s removal, raising allegations of possible financial irregularities.
“Mr President, when ministers are sacked in civilised climes, the government must explain why they are sacked,” he wrote.
“Was the Minister of Finance removed because he could not cover up the stolen 24 billion dollars (about N34 trillion) diverted from our revenue? World Bank no dey lie,” he added.
Melaye, however, did not provide evidence to support the allegation.
The Presidency has yet to respond to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
