Carrick focuses on strong finish as Man United future remains uncertain

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick says his immediate focus is on helping the club finish the season strongly, rather than his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Carrick spoke on Thursday ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Sunderland on Saturday, amid ongoing uncertainty over whether he will remain in charge beyond this season.

The former United midfielder took over in January following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim and has since overseen an upturn in form, including securing Champions League qualification after a dramatic 3–2 win over Liverpool last weekend, with three matches still left.

Despite the improvement, his future remains undecided, with reports suggesting the club’s transfer planning is also affected by the managerial uncertainty.

“Clarity is important,” Carrick said.

“I think moving forward, it’s come at the right time, right at the end of the season… so nothing has really changed.”

He stressed that discussions about his role were always expected to take place towards the end or after the season.

“It’s about putting the boys in the best place possible to finish the season well… I’m calm about it. It’ll get sorted out when it gets sorted out,” he added.

Carrick has earned praise for stabilising the squad and improving performances following a difficult start to the campaign under Amorim.
