EFCC Strengthens Ties with Army, DSS to Fight Illegal Mining and Banditry in Kwara

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Directorate, has deepened collaboration with the Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) to combat corruption, illegal mining, banditry, and terrorism financing in Kwara State.

Zonal Director Victoria Ugo-Ali paid courtesy visits on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, to the Commandant of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, and the Kwara State DSS Director, Michael Oganwu, to discuss coordinated strategies.

Ugo-Ali highlighted the threat posed by illicit mining to Nigeria’s economic stability and its links to terrorism financing, urging intelligence sharing, joint field operations, and protection of mining sites. She stressed that funds from illegal mineral extraction are sometimes diverted to extremist activities, making inter-agency cooperation crucial.

Brigadier General Rume pledged full support for EFCC initiatives, committing to joint operations, intelligence exchange, and capacity-building programs. At the DSS headquarters, Ugo-Ali emphasized intelligence-driven enforcement to disrupt financial flows that fuel banditry and criminal networks.

Director Oganwu assured the EFCC of DSS’s unwavering support, promising actionable intelligence and strategic collaboration to tackle economic crimes and enhance security in Kwara and neighbouring states.
