The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced efforts to reconcile aggrieved members following disputes arising from the party’s recent primary elections.
Chairman of the party’s Reconciliation Committee, retired Colonel AbdulWahab Ademola Lawal, made the disclosure during a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday, where he appealed to dissatisfied members to embrace dialogue in the interest of party unity.
Lawal said the committee was constituted to engage aggrieved leaders, aspirants, candidates and stakeholders across the state with the aim of resolving differences ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Describing the disagreements as a family matter, he noted that none of the parties involved had abandoned the APC, expressing confidence that lasting peace could be achieved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
He urged party members to refrain from inflammatory statements capable of escalating tensions, stressing that sacrifices would be required to preserve the party’s unity and electoral strength.
According to him, the committee will hold consultative meetings across the three senatorial districts and engage party executives, stakeholders, aspirants and members of the G15 Coalition, both collectively and individually.
Lawal added that the committee would submit a comprehensive report with recommendations to the APC State Executive Committee to facilitate reconciliation and strengthen the party.
He also commended individuals and groups already working to resolve the crisis, saying the committee was established to complement, rather than replace, existing peace initiatives.
The committee chairman further appealed to the media, especially social media users, to report developments responsibly and avoid publications capable of worsening the situation.
Other members of the reconciliation committee present at the briefing included Dr. Oluwatoyin Opawoye, Engr. Musa Yeketi and ACG Ahmed Abbass.
