Kwara approves 30% peculiar allowance for media workers, agencies

The Kwara State Government has approved a 30 per cent peculiar allowance for workers in media houses, agencies and parastatals, extending the benefit to categories previously excluded from similar welfare packages for mainstream civil servants.

The approval was announced on Monday in Ilorin through the Office of the Head of Service.

The Acting Head of Service, Olufunke Shittu, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Press Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Okanlawon Solomon.

According to her, the decision reflects the government’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness and improved welfare across all segments of the state workforce.

“This approval reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to fairness, workers’ welfare, and inclusiveness across all cadres of the state workforce,” she said.

Shittu explained that the extension of the allowance to agencies, parastatals and media establishments was aimed at correcting earlier disparities and ensuring equitable welfare distribution among public servants.

She added that the implementation of the 30 per cent peculiar allowance will take effect from June 1, 2026, and directed all affected institutions to ensure strict compliance.

The Acting Head of Service commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for ongoing efforts to improve workers’ welfare and living conditions in the state.

She also urged workers to remain dedicated to their duties and continue supporting government programmes.

Shittu further disclosed that May salaries had been paid ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to enable workers prepare for the festive period.

She wished workers and Muslim faithful a peaceful Sallah celebration, praying for continued peace and prosperity in Kwara State.
