The Kwara State Police Command has commenced Operation VELVET, a continuous enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations and improving road safety across the state.
The operation, which began on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, is being carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to the Command, Operation VELVET will focus on ensuring that motorists obey traffic laws and that vehicles operating on Kwara roads possess valid registration and other legally required documents.
The Police therefore advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles and relevant documents are up to date before embarking on journeys.
The Command warned that motorists found violating traffic regulations or operating vehicles without the required documentation would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing laws and due process.
The Commissioner of Police urged motorists, commercial drivers and other road users to cooperate with police personnel and drive responsibly, stressing that the enforcement exercise is aimed at protecting lives and property and promoting safer roads across the state.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, public order and road safety in Kwara State.
