Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saliu Danladi, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.
Danladi secured victory in the party’s governorship primary election held on Friday, polling over 94,000 votes to defeat 14 other aspirants.
The APC primary, initially scheduled for Thursday, was shifted to Friday over what party officials described as technical issues.
The development came after Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq reversed his earlier endorsement of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki and backed Danladi as his preferred candidate.
Danladi, who is from Kwara North Senatorial District, contested alongside the governor’s earlier preferred aspirant and other contenders for the party’s ticket.
The APC had earlier announced the postponement of governorship primaries in Kwara and Bauchi states.
In a statement issued on Thursday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the exercises in both states would now hold on Friday.
