The Office of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has dismissed allegations circulating online that he attempted to bribe a United States official, describing the reports as false, baseless, and politically motivated.
In a statement signed by his Personal Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, the office said it had taken note of claims linking Matawalle to a purported report attributed to the United World Congress of Diplomats and comments allegedly made by a U.S. lawmaker.
The statement stressed that the allegations lack credibility and factual basis, insisting that Matawalle “has never engaged in, nor would he ever condone, any act of bribery or misconduct.”
It further described the reports as a “campaign of calumny” aimed at distracting the minister from his duties at the Ministry of Defence.
According to the office, Matawalle remains focused on his national responsibilities and will not be distracted by what it called malicious propaganda.
The statement urged the public to disregard the allegations and reaffirmed the minister’s commitment to integrity and public service.
