The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has commenced the second phase of its Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Capacity Building Programme as part of efforts to strengthen digital transformation across its operations.
The training, organised by the Service’s ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate, began on Tuesday at the NIS Headquarters in Sauka, Abuja.
Declaring the programme open on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, F.U. Nwanneka, said the Service remains committed to innovation and continuous capacity development.
She noted that while Artificial Intelligence presents significant opportunities to improve operational efficiency, intelligence-led migration management and service delivery, its success depends on the competence and professionalism of officers.
The Deputy Comptroller-General and Head of ICT and Cybersecurity, Augusta Obianime, said the second phase followed the success of the initial training programme. She disclosed that an Inter-Directorate Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Committee has been established, while 220 officers are participating in the training in two batches.
Obianime urged participants to apply the knowledge acquired to improve operational efficiency and service delivery across the Service.
The programme covers Artificial Intelligence concepts and applications, blockchain technology, AI ethics, data protection, and the integration of AI and blockchain into the Nigeria Immigration Service’s digital operations.
According to the Service, the initiative is aimed at strengthening migration management, border governance, institutional efficiency and national security, while building a digitally skilled workforce in line with global best practices.
