President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved federal road and bridge projects worth about N883 billion for Kwara State, following sustained efforts by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to attract critical infrastructure investments to the state.
The approvals were announced on Wednesday and represent one of the biggest federal infrastructure investments in Kwara in recent years.
Leading the approvals is the N276 billion dualisation of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road, a strategic highway that connects Kwara and Oyo states. The project is expected to ease traffic, shorten travel time, improve road safety, and stimulate economic activities along one of the North Central region’s busiest transport corridors.
The President also approved N265 billion for the reconstruction of the Iseyin-Eruwa-Agbesi Road, which traverses Oyo and Kwara states, as well as N217 billion for the dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye through the Federal Government College to Ilorin, with a spur to Akinmorin.
Also approved is N104 billion for the rehabilitation of Sections 1 and 2 of the Ilorin-Omorin-Egbe-Kabba-Obajana Road, a vital federal highway linking Kwara and Kogi states. The road serves as a major route for interstate travel and commercial transportation and has long required extensive rehabilitation.
To tackle traffic congestion within the Ilorin metropolis, the President further approved N21 billion for the construction of a flyover at Oko-Olowo Junction, a notorious traffic bottleneck. The project is expected to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for motorists and other road users.
Government officials said the approvals highlight Governor AbdulRazaq’s continued engagement with the Federal Government to attract development projects that will boost connectivity, trade and livelihoods in Kwara State.
