The Police Service Commission, PSC, has deployed a monitoring team to Osun State to oversee the conduct of police personnel during Saturday’s governorship election.
The team, led by retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, will monitor officers deployed for the election and ensure compliance with operational guidelines.
In a statement by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the commission urged police officers to remain apolitical, professional and disciplined before, during and after the poll.
The PSC said officers must protect the rights of citizens to vote freely and peacefully, warning that any personnel found compromising the credibility of the election would face sanctions.
The commission said the deployment is aimed at strengthening public confidence in the electoral process and ensuring that police conduct remains impartial and rule-based.
Fourteen political parties are contesting the August 15 governorship election, with about 15,000 police officers deployed across the state for the poll.
