TikToker apologises after assaulting elderly woman on Lagos bus

A TikTok content creator identified as Jola, known online as ugly_gal_jola, has publicly apologised after a viral video in which she admitted assaulting an elderly woman during a confrontation inside a commercial bus in Lagos.

In an apology video released after police invited her for questioning, Jola expressed regret over the incident and said the matter had been settled.

The altercation reportedly began during a bus trip from Ikotun to Igando after the elderly passenger complained about the volume of Jola’s phone. According to Jola, the dispute escalated into insults and allegedly turned physical when the woman slapped her, prompting her reaction.

The incident triggered widespread outrage after Jola initially posted a viral video admitting she beat the woman, a statement that fueled criticism online.

A later video showing her in handcuffs at a police station further intensified public debate, with reactions divided between condemnation of the assault and arguments around self-defence.

Although the case has reportedly been resolved following police intervention, the incident continues to spark conversations about public conduct, respect for elders, and conflict in public transport.
