Tinubu Unveils ‘Reforms Scorecard’, Tasks Finance Minister Oyedele to Explain Economic Progress to Nigerians

By Usman Oladimeji

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has presented a document titled “The Reforms Scorecard,” detailing the achievements, costs and impact of his administration’s economic reforms since 2023.

The President, in a letter addressed to Nigerians, said the report was designed to provide a clearer picture of what the reforms have achieved, the costs incurred and the potential economic challenges the government believes were avoided through the implementation of the policies.

Tinubu said the reforms were introduced to build what he described as “an economy that works better for you and a country that is stronger for our children.”

According to the President, Nigerians deserve to understand the figures behind the reforms, the decisions taken by the administration, the progress recorded so far and the challenges that remain.

He consequently directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to provide Nigerians with a detailed explanation of the figures, policy choices and economic outcomes contained in the scorecard.

Tinubu said the administration understands that the reforms have come with significant costs and difficulties for citizens, but maintained that decisive action was necessary to prevent what he described as greater economic harm.

He said the scorecard would therefore help Nigerians assess not only the gains recorded since 2023 but also the sacrifices and challenges associated with the reforms.

The President urged Nigerians to pay attention to the explanation of the economic figures and understand how the reforms affect individuals, families, businesses and the wider economy.

The presentation of the Reforms Scorecard comes as the Federal Government continues to defend its economic policies, including measures aimed at stabilising the economy, increasing government revenue and creating a more sustainable economic environment.

The Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, is expected to provide further details on the performance of the economy, the impact of the reforms on citizens and businesses, as well as areas where the government believes more work is required.
